Bharat Singh Hada of Kundanpur (15 Aug 1950 - 6 Oct 2025)

Former Congress PWD and Panchayat Raj minister, Bharat Singh, won his first seat in 2003 from Khanpur. He later represented Sangod and Digod for a further three terms. He campaigned tirelessly for better irrigation facilities for farmers and constructed numerous anicuts and check dams. He also developed water holes and wetlands for birds and other wildlife - his great passion.

Born on 15th August, 1950, Bharat had excelled at art while at Mayo College and graduated as a gold medallist in Fine Art from Baroda University, specialising in watercolours. After graduating he returned to manage his father's estate at Kundanpur and quickly became Sarpanch and then Pradhan.

As a nature lover, he campaigned fearlessly from the 1980's for the Great Indian Bustard and its local habitat in the Sorsan grasslands. He co-founded the Hadoti Naturalists Society in 1991, remaining its patron until his death. One of his last projects was the development of Gopal Pakshi Vihar in the wetlands at Seemliya near Kanwas.

Although no longer actively painting, Bharat remained keenly interested in art and was an invaluable supporter of Kota Heritage Society. His father Jujharh Singhji had been a founder member of KHS, and his younger son and professional artist Ganga, is an executive member. Bharat paid for and supervised the renovation and waterproofing of the Kota Art Gallery and protected its interests. He developed the amphitheatre at the gallery into the Navroze Natyashala, named after his Baroda friend and KHS member Navroze Contractor.

Bharat will be remembered for his honesty and determination to improve  the lives of the powerless and to preserve the natural world in all its diversity. His support for all artistic and cultural activities will be greatly missed, as well as his warmth and sense of humour.
