Eye Camp in Kaithoon for Women Weavers - 19 Oct 2012

On October 19th a free eye camp was held in Kaithoon for women weavers. Members of the Kota Women Weavers Organisation and other self-help groups were invited. 94 women had their eyes tested by Narendra Gandhi of Gandhi Opticals, Kota in three hours.

The women also had a free medical check-up from the Emmanuel Mission medical team led by Dr. Raj Kumar.

One week later the women received a pair of spectacles each in a soft case at a cost to the Society of Rs. 100 each.

Sponsorship for the glasses was given by Jashn Elite and a new society member in New York who loves Kota-doria saris. Sister Aurora of St. Clare Seva Sadan arranged transport for the optician and his equipment and provided the venue. The Kota Heritage Society arranged the finance.

Thanks to all who gave freely of their time, it was a happy and relaxed occasion and now ninety-four women can see more clearly when they weave!
